Banks and money transfer businesses set their own rates, which are usually lower than this. We don't send money and we don't recommend any provider.

How fees and margins work
The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the rates at which banks buy and sell a currency. It's a reference point. Banks and money transfer businesses usually give you a lower rate and keep the difference. That difference is the exchange rate margin.
A transfer can cost you in two ways: a fee you can see, and a margin built into the rate. Some providers also have the receiving bank or an intermediary bank take a fee on the way. A transfer with no fee can still cost more than one with a fee if its margin is bigger.
To compare quotes, look at how much CNY your recipient gets for the same amount of AUD, after every fee. Moneysmart gives the same advice.
| Example | Rate given | Recipient gets | Fee plus margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Example A: AUD 0 fee, 2.5% margin | 4.5623 | CNY 4,562.32 | AUD 25.00 |
| Example B: AUD 5 fee, 1% margin | 4.6325 | CNY 4,609.34 | AUD 14.95 |
| Example C: AUD 15 fee, 0.5% margin | 4.6559 | CNY 4,586.06 | AUD 19.92 |
